Output Jockey - Privacy Policy

Who we are

Output Jockey is a macOS audio utility developed by Michael Sibley at Siblify. Siblify is a trading name of The New Office Network Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 10414644. For questions about this policy or your personal information, email michael@siblify.com.

Privacy at a glance

Output Jockey processes audio on your Mac. The app saves audio recordings locally only when you press Record. It does not upload audio, include advertising or tracking tools, or send its own analytics to us. You do not need an account to use it. Settings are saved locally. The app contacts our website only to check for updates. If you contact us for support, we may receive the information described below.

Audio and app information processed on your Mac

With your permission, Output Jockey uses macOS system-audio capture to adjust volume, apply equaliser and crossover settings, and play the result through your selected output devices. Audio is processed temporarily in memory. If you press Record, the selected output’s stereo mix is saved as an M4A or WAV audio file in the folder you choose. Pressing Stop, changing outputs, turning processing off, or quitting finishes the file. Recordings are not sent to us; you manage and delete them in Finder.

If you enable automatic output switching, Output Jockey checks audio activity from the apps you configure to decide when to switch the system output. It uses information such as running app identifiers and connected audio devices for this purpose. It does not keep a listening history or send us a list of your apps.

Permissions

You can turn Output Jockey off or quit it to stop audio processing and volume-key monitoring. You can disable automatic switching and indicator replacement separately in the app, and revoke permissions in System Settings under Privacy & Security. Revoking a permission may make its associated feature unavailable. Selecting an input device changes your system input selection; Output Jockey does not record microphone input.

Settings and optional local diagnostics

Output Jockey saves preferences in its local macOS app container. These include volume and sound settings, device identifiers and labels, app-to-output rules, recording format and folder access, and enabled options. They remain until you change or reset them. macOS or backup software may include this local data in backups you control.

Optional troubleshooting diagnostics are off by default. When enabled, they store technical information locally, such as audio levels, callback counts, audio formats, device identifiers, timestamps and recent errors. They do not contain audio recordings and are not automatically sent to us. The current diagnostic snapshot is replaced as the app runs, and the event log retains up to 20 recent entries. Saved diagnostics remain until cleared or settings are reset.

To delete the app's saved preferences and diagnostics, choose Options → Reset Saved Settings and confirm Reset and Quit. Reset does not delete your recording files; delete those in Finder. macOS permissions and Login Items are managed separately in System Settings. Copies in your backups must be managed through your backup software.

Support enquiries

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and any attachments you choose to include. This may include diagnostic information or screenshots if you send them. Please avoid including audio recordings or unrelated personal information.

We use support information to respond to you and investigate problems. Our lawful basis, where applicable, is our legitimate interest in supporting users and improving Output Jockey. Email service providers process messages to deliver and store correspondence. We retain support correspondence only for as long as needed to resolve the enquiry, maintain relevant troubleshooting records, and meet applicable legal obligations.

Downloads and update checks

Output Jockey is downloaded from siblify.com. Once installed, it checks our website for a newer version about once a day, and when you choose Options → Check for Updates. Each check is an ordinary web request for a small list of releases. Like any web request, it reveals your IP address to our web host, along with the app's name and version and the version of the update component it uses (Sparkle). The check does not include your audio, settings, recordings, device names or app rules, and no identifier is created for you or your Mac. If an update is available and you accept it, the app downloads it from the same website.

Our web host keeps standard server logs of these requests, as it does for every visit to the website. We use them only to operate and secure the website, not to identify or profile you. You can turn automatic checks off under Options → Check for Updates Automatically; nothing is then sent unless you check by hand.

External links and sharing

Privacy and support links open your browser or email application. Those services operate separately from Output Jockey, and visiting the website involves normal web requests to its hosting provider. This policy describes Output Jockey and related support and beta testing; it does not make a claim that the website or your browser collects no information.

We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Audio and settings processed locally by Output Jockey are not shared with us. Information you provide for support is used for that purpose and may be disclosed where required by law.

Your rights

Depending on the law that applies, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information we hold, restrict its use, or request a portable copy. We cannot access or retrieve audio or settings that remain only on your Mac.

You may object to processing based on our legitimate interests. To make a request, email michael@siblify.com. You can also complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office or your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if Output Jockey's handling of information changes. The date above identifies the latest revision.
